LTA launch Bus Safety campaign

Apr 04, 2019

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) launches its Bus Safety awareness campaign for Passengers, Bus Drivers and other road users.

April is a very busy month for schools as there will be a lot of involvement of buses carrying children to major sporting activities of National Rugby League finals for secondary schools this coming weekend, and Maritime schools as well as schools outside of Suva travelling to Suva for the three days annual Coke Games athletics competition. Easter is almost here and schools will be chartering buses for special events.

As part of the campaign, LTA will be visiting bus companies hired for such events to raise awareness on their roles and responsibilities, carry out interventions at bus bays/stops as well as sporting venues.

All bus passengers on charter buses must be seated. No standing passengers are permitted under any circumstances.

The behavior of school children must be exemplary and children must not in any way distract the attention of the driver by rowdy behavior.

LTA also wishes to advise bus companies and drivers involved in transporting of school children to adhere to road safety rules during this time as safety of children will be in their hands.

Bus operators are reminded to drive within speed limits and ensure that safety standards are followed.

Parents and teachers have responsibilities in relation to the behavior of their Children on buses and are advised to ensure that the safety rules are complied with at all times.

Let’s all go the extra mile to ensure ZERO HARM to our Children.
