To apply for a driving instructor permit, you will need to fulfill some conditions. Below is the process of how you can successfully get a driving instructor permit.
Checklists (What to carry with you when at the Counter)
To be considered into the DIP course, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 25 years of age or above
- Minimum education level of a completed Diploma from a recognized tertiary institution
- Must graduate as Training of Trainers (ToTs) for Module 1 & 2 from a recognized tertiary institution and become a qualified Registered Instructor
- Must hold a full Class 2 driving license with at least four (4) years of full license experience.
- Must be medically fit
- No adverse police record, and,
- Must have a clean/favorable driving Traffic Infringement Notice (TIN) record.

Process
- Fill in the application form (you can get this form online or at LTA’s office).
- Submit the application form together with the checklist (as mentioned above) to the Team Leader Driving for assessment.
- If you are successful and selected, you will need to pay the DIP course fees and attend a 1-week training before you will undertake theory and practical assessment.
- Once you have passed both theory and practical assessment then you need to pay your application in the system through the CSO.
- After you have paid the application fees, you will receive your receipt.
- Your application will go through the approval process.
- Once your application is approved you will then receive an approval letter.
- After you have received your approval letter, you need to pay the permit fee.
- You will receive your permit through the Driving Department.
