Q. What are the requirements in obtaining a Learners Permit?

     The requirements for obtaining a Learners Permit are as follows:-

  1. 2 Passport size photos
  2. Original Birth Certificate OR passport
  3. Shoold be 16 ½ years and above
  4. TIN letter or the FNPF joint card
  5. Fill the LTA learners permit form
  6. Pay the processing fees  - $19
  7. Road Code book - $9.48 (Optional)

Q. If I lost my Learners Permit Card, what do I do in order to replace it?

     You need to do the following:-

  1. Report to Police as we need a Police report
  2. Fill a Statutory Declaration Form; witnessed by a JP, Commissioner of Oath or a lawyer.
  3. Fill the Learners Permit Application form
  4. Pay a fee of  $3.79

      Please note that the above is only for valid Learners Permit

Q. What do I do if my Learners Permit card is lost and expired?

     You will have to;

  1. Write a request for renewal letter stating reasons for not undergoing driving test within the time of Leaners Permit validity.
  2. Fill in the application form
  3. Pay a fees of $6.50

     (Note that this is a normal process of Learner's Permit renewal)


Q. What are the requirements for renewal of Provisional Licence?

     The requirements for renewal of Provisional Licences are:-

  1. Defensive Driving Course - $34
  2. Fill the Driver’s License Renewal Update  form
  3. Ensure that your traffic fines are cleared if convicted in Court.
  4. Renewal fees  - 1yr - $13.74, 3yrs - $40.28, 6yrs - $80.57

Q. If my driver licence is expired, what am I required to do? (Full Licence)

     Expired driver licence for less than 3 years, you need to:

  1. Fill the driver licence Renewal Update form
  2. Clear traffic fines if they are convicted
  3. For Classes 6, 7, 9 – produce a current Medical Certificate if already expired.
  4. Renewal fees  - 1yr - $13.74, 3yrs - $40.28, 6yrs - $80.57
  5. Pay Arrears - $13.74 per year

     Expired driver licence for more than 3 years but less than 6 years, there are 2 Options:

     Option 1

  1. Request in writing for renewal without undergoing a driving test
  2. Fill the driver licence Renewal Update form
  3. Clear traffic fines if they are convicted
  4. Produce a current Medical Certificate.
  5. Undergo Defensive Driving Certificate
  6. Renewal fees  - 1yr - $13.74, 3yrs - $40.28, 6yrs - $80.57
  7. Arrears is $13.74 per year
    Option 2

    (New Application)

  1. Apply for a Leaners Permit
  2. Undergo Driving Test
  3. Clear traffic fines if already convicted
  4. Pay fee for re-issue: 1yr - $13.74, 3yrs - $40.28, 6yrs - $80.57

    Expired driver licence for more than 6 years, you need to:

    (New Application)

  1. Apply for a Leaner;s Permit
  2. Undergo Driving Test
  3. Clear traffic fines if already convicted
  4. Pay fee for re-issue: 1yr - $13.74, 3yrs - $40.28, 6yrs - $80.57

Q. My PSV licence has expired; can I renew it like the private licence?

     If expired within 1 year, All you need to do is

  1. To fill  the appropriate form
  2. To have a valid Defensive Driving Certificate
  3. A valid Medical Report
  4. Pay a renewal fees of  - $20.38 (Classes 3,4,5)

      Note:  That both DDC and Medical Report is valid for 6 years.

      If expired for more than 1 year but less than 3 years, you need to do is

  1. Apply for a Learners Permit for relevant class
  2. Undergo driving Test
  3. To have a valid Defensive Driving Certificate
  4. A valid Medical Report
  5. Pay a renewal fees of  - $20.38 (Classes 3,4,5)

      Note:  That both DDC and Medical Report is valid for 6 years.

      If expired for more than 3 years, it’s a new application, you need to

  1. Apply for PSV Approval
  2. Apply for Police Clearance/Vetting
  3. Apply for a Learners Permit for relevant class
  4. Undergo driving Test
  5. Undergo Defensive Driving Course
  6. Produce a current Medical Report
  7. Pay a renewal fees of  - $20.38 (Classes 3,4,5)

     Note: Application will be assessed prior to applying for Police Clearance to ascertain
     the acceptance of application.

Q. I have misplaced my licence. How can I have my licence redone?

     You will need the following;​   

  1. Police Report
  2. Statutory declaration to be witnessed by a JP, Commissioner of Oath or a lawyer
  3. Fill in the appropriate form
  4. $7.58 for Classes 1,2,6,7,8,9
  5. $14.22– for PSV licence (Classes 3,4,5)

Q. How do I get a PSV Licence?

    You may apply at any LTA Office and produce the following:

  1. Original birth certificate
  2. 1 passport size photo
  3. Group 2 valid foll licence
  4. Fees of $4.74
  5. Application assessed , if approved -  Apply for Police Clearance either with LTA or at Central Police Station - $18.96 fees
  6. If no adverse records you may apply for Learners Permit - $16.11
  7. Defensive Driving - $72.51
  8. Driving Test fees - $15.17
  9. Issue of PSV Driving Licence – Fees will depend on the validity of the current License

Q. My number plate was removed from my vehicle/lost/stolen/damaged . What do I do to
    get a  replacement?

    For Lost/Stolen number plates, you need to:

  1. Report it to Police as we need a Police report
  2. Fill in a Statutory declaration and to be signed a Justice of Peace, Commissioner of Oath or a Lawyer
  3. Fill in the Replacement Number Plate form
  4. $13.74 fees for replacement of number plates – Private and PSV
  5. $17 for Commercial Vehicles

     For Damaged number plates, you need to:

  1. Fill in the Replacement Number Plate form
  2. $14.50 fees for replacement of number plates – Private and PSV
  3. $16.11 for Commercial Vehicles
  4. Surrender damaged number plates.

Q. I wish to change my vehicle number to a name, what should I do? (Unique Number)
    You should do the following;

  1. Fill in the appropriate form
  2. Request letter explaining the meaning of the number applied for
  3. If vehicle is under Financial Interest, a consent from the Financier on the change of number.
  4. Maximum letter or figure is 6
  5. If approved, a letter will be issued
  6. Amend Vehicle number on third party accordingly with the Insurance Company.
