How to Obtain a Class 2 Learners Permit
Class 2 Learner Permit Requirement
In order to obtain a Class 2 Driver Licence, you will need to first apply for a learners permit for that class. Only with a valid learners permit, you can join a driving school for theory sessions (10 hours). For practical learning (20 hours), you can either join a driving school or take driving classes under the supervision of a valid Class 2 Full Driver Licence Holder. Below are the procedures that you need to follow in order to successfully apply for a learners permit.
Applicant must be physically present at LTA Branch for Learner Permit application process.
Pre–requisites (Prior Condition before Application)
- Your age should be greater than equal to 16 years and 6 months.
- All your Traffic Infringement Notices must be cleared.
Checklist (What to bring)
- Take with you your Original Birth Certificate.
- Proof of Tax Identification Number (FRCS/FNPF Joint Card or FRCS TIN Letter).
- Valid Proof of Photo ID.
- Passport size photo x 1 (Dimensions: 3.5cm x 4.5cm).

Process
- Fill in the application form (you can get this form online or at LTA’s office). Click Here to Download Application for Learners Permit Form
- Submit the application form together with the checklist (as mentioned above) to the Customer Service Officer (CSO).
- Once the CSO has updated your application in the system, you will need to pay the Application fees.
- After you have paid the application fees, you need to pass the Driver Knowledge Test.
- If you Fail the Driver Knowledge Test, you can pay the application fees again to the CSO and re-do the test.
- If you Pass the Driver Knowledge Test, then you will need to come back to the CSO counter and pay your fees for the Learners permit card, Work book and Curriculum.
- After the payment is done, you need to go to the Card Printing officer to get your card printed. Summary of Workflow - Driver Knowledge Test
How to Obtain Class 2 Learners Permit (For Expired Driver Licence)
If your Class 2 Driver Licence had expired for more than six years, you are required to redo the above application process to obtain a Class 2 Learners Permit. This is also applicable to drivers who are 70 years and above, that have an expired Class 2 Licence and are required to undergo driving test.
