The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has appointed Samuel Charles Simpson as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Simpson joined LTA on 02 January 2019 and brings with him extensive experience in the transport industry.
LTA Board Chairman, Vijay Maharaj, congratulated Mr. Simpson on his appointment and said it is an exciting time as LTA starts the New Year with higher expectations.
“Mr. Simpson’s wealth of experience in the transport industry will greatly assist LTA in terms of capacity building and human resource development as well as boost LTA reforms.
Mr. Maharaj added that with vigorous selection process for the recruitment of its CEO, Mr. Simpson’s strong leadership qualities and managerial skills put him as the best candidate for the role among many who had applied and the LTA Board has full faith on him to lead LTA to an efficient and vibrant work force in the three years of his contract and beyond as per expectations of the Government, public and the stakeholders at large.
Mr. Simpson said he is happy to join LTA as the enthusiasm and energy of LTA staff and their commitment to serving customers and making a positive difference to the Fijian peoples’ lives; the importance of the work the LTA does and the mixture of serving both the strategic transport and its customers is what attracted him to LTA.
“It will be a journey which I promise will at the very least be challenging and interesting. It will be hard work, but when we get it right, it will be rewarding and most importantly, it should also be fun,”Mr. Simpson said.
Mr Simpson previously worked for Bus Eireann in Ireland and in the Middle East responsible for Serco’s Bus Operations in Asia, Middle East, and Americans.
He has over 32 years of transport industry experience; including nearly 25 years’ experience at General Manager and Director Level. Prior to joining LTA, Mr. Simpson managed large bus operations in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Reading and West Yorkshire including being responsible for regulatory functions, safety and operational standards.
He was also awarded the accolade of UK Bus Manager of the year by leading Trade Publication “Route One”. An engineer by training and educated to higher degree level his seminal PhD work was commercially published in October 2008.
