LTA launches new road safety awareness posters for kids

May 13, 2019

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) launched its six new Road Safety Posters for the Kids Safe Awareness Campaign this month, which is expected to intensify the current road safety education and awareness amongst young people across the country at the headquarters in Valelevu today.

This initiative is aligned to the Fiji Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 National Action Plan on Road Safety Education and the 5 and 20 Year National Development Plan, which aims at incorporating new and effective measures that will help to reduce the number of road crashes and fatalities.

The Kids Safe campaign targets children from the ages of 4 – 13 and the month of May has been dedicated by the LTA to raising the level of road safety consciousness amongst young people.

The campaign also urges parents and guardians, and family members to play an active role in raising awareness about the importance of road safety to help reduce road trauma.

LTA Team Leader Road Safety Education Watilala Fonu said one of the great things about road safety awareness is that everyone can get involved and a small action can have a big impact.

“The focus for Kids Safe Campaign this month is understanding of basic road safety measures like safe crossing places, traffic signals, behaviour in a vehicle and on the road, visibility on the road and proper use of seatbelts and helmets.

“These behaviour need to become a common place feature of Fiji’s road safety culture amongst our young people and the onus is on us as parents, guardians, educators and facilitators to ensure that our children are not left behind,” Ms Fonu said.

“An occasion like this is a reminder of not just the challenges we face, but also what we may achieve when we work together for a common goal,” She added.
