LTA, FBOA meet to discuss issues of mutual concern

Jul 13, 2019

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) had a meeting last week at FBOA offices in Valelevu discussing on important issues concerning the bus industry.

Present in the meeting was LTA CEO, members of the Senior Management Team of LTA as well as LTA Board Director Mr Aptinko Vaurasi with the FBOA represented by their Executive Committee.

In a very broad ranging discussion the areas covered related to policy, eTransport, Omnibus Driver’s records, vandalism on buses among other things. The Authority has recently circulated its draft code of conduct for the conveyance of school children to all stakeholders for comment. This is an important gap that needs to be addressed.

On the eTransport issues the LTA Chief Executive will attend a planned meeting with the FBOA and Vodafone to discuss ways of enhancing the system improving its effectiveness and discussing the next logical steps to providing the customers with enhanced functionality.

The LTA will also facilitate a meeting between the FBOA and the Ministry of Education to discuss the practicalities of school’s transport in relation to the eTransport system.

LTA Chief Executive said that a disturbing trend in bus vandalism was apparent and the Authority would work with Fiji Police to apprehend the culprits.

By common consent the meeting was a constructive dialogue and both parties have agreed to the formation of a Technical Working Group to take forward the discussions on areas of common interest. This forum will meet at least quarterly in various parts of Fiji.
