Festive Season Road Safety campaign launched

Dec 17, 2019

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) together with the Fiji Police Force and Accident Compensation Commission, Fiji (ACCF) launched  festive season road safety campaign with the campaign theme “Stop Slaughter on Fiji Roads”. Graphic images have been used to get the message across in a very direct way to maximise the impact.

The campaign was jointly launched by the LTA CEO Samuel Simpson, Director Traffic and Transport Senior Superintendent Mahesh Mishra, and ACCF CEO Parvez Akbar.

LTA CEO Mr.Simpson said they made no apology for using graphic images which were genuine photos to reinforce the central theme of the campaign to stop slaughter on Fiji roads.

SSP. Mishra raised the Fiji Police Force’s concern on the increasing number of road accidents and said the campaign is very important to road safety.

“The campaign is to ensure safety of the people and we are working together to ensure safety of our people and how best together to stop road fatalities in Fiji.

Mr. Akbar said the ACCF support the campaign and urged that the road safety must start from home and everyone must take road safety responsibility. He also made clear that there were exceptions to the payment of compensation. If a driver was convicted of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs there was no compensation for injuries sustained.

“I’m glad that the campaign is shocking and that is exactly what we need.”
