SUVA, Fiji (20 August 2024): The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji received a timely vehicle donation from the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) at a handover ceremony held at the LTA Headquarters in Valelevu, Nasinu on Tuesday 20 August 2024. The generous donation is a testament to the strong partnership between the two organizations and their shared commitment to ensuring the safety of all Fijians on our roads.

LTA Board Chairman Inosi Kuridrani said the vehicle would play a pivotal role in the LTA's ongoing efforts to enhance road safety awareness and outreach across the nation.

With road safety being a top priority for the LTA, Mr Kuridrani said every life saved through improved awareness, education, and enforcement was considered a significant success.

“The new vehicle will serve as a crucial tool in this mission, enabling LTA teams to extend their reach to more communities and deliver impactful road safety messages that resonate with drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike,” he said.

Mr Kuridrani said the partnership between the LTA and FRA was rooted in a common goal to reduce road accidents and fatalities by promoting safer driving behaviors, increasing public awareness, and ensuring the infrastructure supports safe road usage.

FRA Board Chairman Atunaisa Nayago highlighted the importance of such collaborations, adding road safety was a multi-faceted issue that required the involvement of various stakeholders.

“We are delighted to support the LTA with this vehicle. This donation reflects our commitment to strengthening the collaborative efforts between our agencies and ensuring that the LTA has the necessary tools to effectively carry out its responsibilities,” Mr Nayago said.

“By enhancing their fleet, we are contributing to better road safety, more efficient transport management, and overall improved service for the Fijian people.”

LTA Acting Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa said the newly-acquired vehicle would allow the LTA to expand its outreach efforts, reaching more communities, schools, offices, and public spaces.

From January 2024 to July 2024, he said the LTA had already conducted 1,546 awareness activities across the country, impacting a total of 260,317 individuals.
