LTA BRINGS CHRISTMAS CHEER TO CHILDREN AT ST CHRISTOPHER’S HOME

Jan 07, 2025

SUVA, Fiji (24 December 2024): In the true spirit of Christmas, staff and management of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) visited the children and staff of St Christopher’s Home in Nakasi on Sunday, 22 December 2024, bringing with them an evening filled with warmth, love, and generosity.

The visit, which saw LTA hosting dinner and presenting gifts for the children, was a testament to the Authority’s commitment to community engagement and fostering kindness through its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa said for many of the children at St Christopher’s Home, life had been an uphill journey and the Home served as a sanctuary for children from diverse backgrounds, including abandoned babies, neglected and unwanted children, orphans, and those from broken homes.

“Each child carries a unique story—some marked by loss, others by hardship—but all united by the nurturing care they receive at the Home. LTA’s visit was not just an act of giving; it was an opportunity to share in their lives, even if only for a few hours, and to remind them that they are loved and valued members of the community,” Mr Rokosawa said.

LTA staff from the Valelevu Branch spent the Sunday afternoon with the children, engaging in conversations, caroling, and sharing meals.

Mr Rokosawa said the bond formed during this visit highlighted the importance of human connection and the impact of small acts of kindness.

“This visit was deeply meaningful for all of us at LTA. We recognize that as an organization entrusted with the safety and wellbeing of the public, our responsibility extends beyond our day-to-day operations,” he said.

“It’s about embodying compassion and steering Fiji safely—not just on the roads but in the lives we touch through service and care.”

For staff members, the experience was profoundly moving. Many described it as a humbling reminder of the simple joys of life and the importance of giving back. Those unable to attend contributed by helping organize the event, ensuring its success and showing that generosity knows no bounds.

The CEO said Christmas was a season of love, hope, and sharing, and LTA’s visit to St Christopher’s Home captured this essence beautifully.

“Christmas is a time to reflect on the blessings we have and to extend a helping hand to those who may be less fortunate. Seeing the joy on the children’s faces was the best gift we could have asked for. It reminds us that the spirit of Christmas lies in spreading love and joy,” said LTA Acting Manager Finance, Ms Asnita Dutt.

The visitation also serves as a reminder that the spirit of Christmas is not confined to a single day or season. It’s a way of living that calls for empathy, generosity, and love every day of the year.

Mr Rokosawa extended the Authority’s heartfelt gratitude to the staff of St Christopher’s Home for their unwavering dedication to the children and for allowing the LTA family to be part of their lives, if only for a day.

“To the children, LTA sends this message: ‘You inspire us with your strength and hope, and we are honored to have shared this Christmas season with you’,” the CEO shared.

As the festive season continues, LTA is encouraging all Fijians to reach out to those in need, to spread joy and love, and to remember that every act of kindness contributes to building a safer, more compassionate Fiji for all.
