SUVA, Fiji (29 January 2025): The newly-appointed Assistant Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Honourable Naisa Tuinaceva, visited the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji in Valelevu, Nasinu, today as part of his Ministry orientation programme.
Hon. Tuinaceva, who was also the former Chief Executive Officer of LTA, met the executive management team and was briefed on the Authority’s current initiatives, future direction, and the ongoing efforts to enhance road safety across Fiji.
Hon. Tuinaceva expressed admiration for the significant progress the Authority had made over the past years.
“It’s truly an honour to be here, returning after seven or eight years since leaving LTA, and to have the opportunity to listen to the management’s presentation,” he shared.
“I am so impressed with the new direction LTA is taking, especially with all the initiatives and developments taking place here, particularly the incorporation of new technologies aimed at improving our work.”
The Assistant Minister acknowledged the crucial role of technology in enhancing the Authority’s operations, particularly in vehicle inspections, and praised the Authority’s efforts to upgrade inspection processes through cutting-edge technologies, which would significantly improve road safety in Fiji.
“Inspection is one area that we’ve always talked about in terms of ensuring the fitness and standards of vehicles. But with all the new technologies LTA is now implementing, it’s a great step forward and it’s wonderful to hear about these advancements. These changes will help in making our roads safer, which is our ultimate goal,” Hon. Tuinaceva said.
“In the last two years, there has been a lot of talk about fatalities on the road, but I want to assure everyone that things are improving. A lot of work is being done to bring our road safety situation to a place where we can confidently say that our roads are safe.”
Hon. Tuinaceva also emphasized the Ministry’s continued support for LTA’s initiatives, stressing the importance of working together to improve road safety and ensure the long-term sustainability of the country’s road network.
“The Ministry will continue to support all these initiatives and work closely with the Authority to make our roads safer for our people. Road safety is paramount, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the safety of all Fijians remains a top priority,” he said.
LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa expressed his gratitude to Hon. Tuinaceva for visiting the Authority and appreciated the opportunity to showcase the ongoing efforts and future direction of LTA.
“We are honoured to have Honourable Tuinaceva visit us today and share his insights. His support and experience, having previously led the Authority, is invaluable as we continue to improve our operations and work towards a safer road environment in Fiji,” Mr. Rokosawa said.
“The safety of all Fijians is our top priority, and we will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Transport, Fiji Police Force, municipal councils other key stakeholders to create a safe and sustainable road network for everyone,” he said.
