SUVA, Fiji (30 January 2025): The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is urging the public to exercise caution and refrain from interacting with individuals and scammers falsely claiming to be LTA officers or offering taxi permits in exchange for money. These individuals are not affiliated with LTA in any capacity and do not represent the Authority.
At present, LTA is not processing taxi permit applications as a review of existing legislation and the quota system for taxi permit allocation is underway. The public is strongly advised to avoid engaging with scammers impersonating LTA officials, including those claiming to be high-ranking officers of LTA or the CEO.
Unfortunately, some individuals have exploited this initiative to engage in fraudulent activities and offering fake taxi permits to unsuspecting members of the public.
It is important for members of the public to understand that genuine LTA officers will never call or send text messages to arrange taxi permits in exchange for cash.
LTA emphasizes that all services and payments are conducted exclusively at LTA offices. Transactions made outside these official channels are illegal, and LTA will not be held responsible for any dealings with impersonators.
If any member of the public is approached by individuals on social media platforms such as Facebook, Viber, WhatsApp claiming to represent LTA and offering taxi permits for a fee, please urgently report the incident to Police so that proper criminal investigations can be undertaken to bring those scammers to task.
