SUVA, Fiji: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) joined the global celebration of International Women’s Day on 7 March 2025, recognising the contributions and achievements of women worldwide, with a special tribute to the 253 remarkable women within the organization who are shaping the future of transport across their three regions.
LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa expressed appreciation for the invaluable role women play within the Authority, stating that International Women’s Day, though officially marked on March 8, recognised women across the world, and most especially the incredible women of the Authority.
He said this year’s theme, “Accelerate Action”, served as a powerful call to take decisive steps toward achieving gender equality and empowering women in all spheres of the workforce.
“At LTA, we don’t just talk about change—we act. With 18 women in management and leadership roles, and a steadfast commitment to advocating for gender equity, we are proud to be part of an organisation where women break barriers, drive innovation, and inspire progress,” Mr Rokosawa said.
“Women at LTA contribute across various departments and disciplines, playing a crucial role in engineering, policymaking, operations, legal services, technology, road safety education, administration, finance and community engagement.
“Their expertise continues to shape a more sustainable, efficient, and inclusive transport system, ensuring better connectivity and accessibility for all.”
He said the Authority was committed to fostering a workplace that supported and empowered women, implementing policies and initiatives that promote career growth, equal opportunities, and an inclusive culture.
With an emphasis on championing diversity and representation, Mr Rokosawa said LTA reinforced its mission to drive progress not only in transport but in workplace equity as well.
“Through mentoring programs, leadership development initiatives, and a commitment to bridging gender gaps in traditionally male-dominated sectors, LTA ensures that women have the resources and support to excel in their careers.
“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to creating an inclusive and empowering workplace where every woman has the opportunity to thrive,” said Mr Rokosawa.
As LTA commemorates this important occasion, the CEO called on all employees to join in the movement to accelerate action.
“We can continue to build a future where women have equal opportunities, recognition, and the support they deserve. To all the remarkable women, let’s continue to accelerate action—together. Thank you for your hard work and inspiration,” Mr Rokosawa said.
LTA Manager Corporate and Governance Litea Tikoinayau said women led, inspired and broke barriers in the workplace every day, often balancing careers while holding their families together.
She said were also the backbone of families as mothers, daughters, sisters and friends, who juggled responsibilities with grace and dedication.
“On March 8, we celebrate the strength, resilience and unwavering spirit of women – not just across the world, but right here in our homes, our communities and our workplaces,” Ms Tikoinayau said.
“International Women’s Day is not just about celebration. It is a reminder that every woman deserves respect, equal opportunities and a voice at every table.”
She said IWD was about creating a future where daughters could dream without limits and where women’s contributions were valued and recognised in every corner of society.
