SUVA, Fiji (21st November 2025): The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and FMF Foods Limited (FMF) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) today in Suva to boost national efforts to adopt cleaner and greener mobility solutions, through the FMF EV Cars initiative, which supports specialised electric vehicles (EV) training program for selected FMF and LTA officers in China.
The initiative is designed to build technical capacity in areas critical to EV growth and regulatory development, marking a major step in Fiji’s transition toward sustainable and modern land transport systems.
LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa acknowledged the value of the collaboration, highlighting that the partnership brings significant benefits to both organisations.
“The training programme will enhance staff capability in emerging vehicle technologies, strengthen regulatory oversight, and support the development of a sustainable future transport system while equipping our officers with technical knowledge and practical exposure to EV operations, safety standards, and inspection processes,” Mr Rokosawa said.
“Capacity building is central to developing national expertise in EV inspection standards, compliance processes, and maintenance protocols, areas necessary for long-term sector growth. This collaboration will enable knowledge sharing, strengthen technical confidence among officers, and ensure Fiji keeps pace with global advancements in transport technology.”
FMF Managing Director and CEO, Sanjay Punja, continues to lead the Group’s strategic involvement in initiatives that support national progress through innovation, technology, and sustainability.
He says the partnership with the Authority reflected FMF’s broader commitment to nation-building that extends beyond its core role in food manufacturing.
LTA vehicle examiner officers Avneil Kumar and Saula Sauniveikau have been selected for the week-long training commencing 24th November 2025 and will depart for China tomorrow.
Mr Kumar expressed his appreciation to the Authority and FMF for the opportunity to be part of the EV training programme.
“I am excited to see how the EV manufacturing process works and to learn more about electric vehicles, especially now that more EVs are entering Fiji,” he said.
“This training will help strengthen our technical knowledge so we can better support LTA’s role in regulating and maintaining safety standards for these new technologies.”
Key objectives of the partnership include capacity-building in EV regulation, including inspection procedures, inspection equipment use, standards, and compliance requirements; professional and technical training that provides hands-on experience in real-world EV environments; cross-cultural collaboration facilitated through international learning exchange between LTA, FMF, and training institutions in China; and knowledge sharing of global best practices for EV inspection, compliance, and modern regulatory approaches.
